(The following is a text of a letter copied to LCCC’s webmaster on 7 October 2019.)

Dear Sir / Madam,

CARRIAGEWAY RESURFACING

As part of an investment in Edinburgh’s roads and footways for 2019/2020, I write to advise that the carriageway on Broughton Road (between Pilrig Street and Broughton Primary School) will be resurfaced in the coming days. Broughton Road has been prioritised because of its current condition and because the upcoming tram works will prevent any planned resurfacing work from taking place in and around the proposed tram line during the construction period.

The works are currently planned to commence on Thursday 10th October 2019 and will last approximately 6 nights with the work being carried out Monday to Friday from 6pm until around 3am. However, to reduce the impact for residents, the noisiest operations, such as breaking out the road surface, will cease no later than 11pm each night.

To facilitate the works, sections of Broughton Road will be closed to through traffic during the working hours, but the road will be fully open again each morning. Residents access to private parking areas will be maintained as best as possible during working hours but there may be some delays when we are working directly in front of the access. If you know you need vehicular access at all times, you may wish to consider alternative parking arrangements nearby. Emergency service and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Anticipated phases;

Phase 1 – Pilrig Street to North Pilrig Heights (3 nights)
Phase 2 – North Pilrig Heights to Broughton Primary School (3 nights)

We also need to restrict parking on Broughton Road to allow us to resurface the carriageway. On street notices and yellow no waiting cones will highlight these areas. Please do not park in these areas or your vehicle may be removed without warning and this may extent the duration of the works.

Unfortunately, disruption and noise is unavoidable during resurfacing works however we will make every effort to minimise the impact for local residents and traders. An officer from the City of Edinburgh Council will be on site from 6pm until 11pm each night to address any questions/comments you may have.
