Proposed Carriageway Resurfacing Works – Summer 2019/20
(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)
The carriageway on a number of streets in your Ward are due to be resurfaced during the Summer of 2019. The roads affected have been prioritised because of their current condition and because the upcoming tram works will prevent any planned resurfacing work from taking place in and around the proposed tram line during the construction period.
The resurfacing works are planned to start on 27 May and will be carried out during weekdays in separate phases in order to minimise disruption to the public. On some traffic sensitive routes, work may be carried out under nightshift to minimise the impact on traffic. Most roads affected will be fully or significantly resurfaced with a select few being only partially resurfaced or patched as required. There will also be some improvements to pedestrian facilities, traffic signal upgrades and renewal of some street furniture.
Leith Street closures: May and June 2019
(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council, Nuveen and Laing O’Rourke, received 23 April 2019. LCCC’s webmaster apologises for the late posting of this information – work circumstances got in the way.)
Leith Street will close temporarily between the junction of Princes Street (Waterloo Place) and the turning into Calton Road. Laing O’Rourke would firstly like to say sorry that this was reported in the media before you heard the news from us. It was not able to share the news at that stage as the dates had not been confirmed.
The works will take place in two phases, with the road reopening in between:
PHASE ONE
Start date: 5 May 2019-19.00
End date: 25 May 2019 -0700
PHASE TWO
Start date: 6 June 2019-19.00
End date: 11 June 2019-0700 Continue reading

LCCC annual report, 21 May 2018
Another year has passed in which Leith Walk, our much-loved and iconic high street, continues to dominate our meetings. Depending who you’re talking to, Leith Walk, once designated as a pedestrian-friendly boulevard or, more recently, a dual carriageway with pedestrian-deterrent paving (if the current tram designs go ahead), continues to be a political football. Plagued by disruption and road works for over 12 long years, residents are fed up and sharply divided as to whether the trams, should the plans be approved, will actually benefit the area.
