McDonald Road Fire Station works update

A small update from the Robertson Group working on redeveloping McDonald Road Fire Station, part of which is being converted into the Edinburgh’s Museum of Fire;

Residents Letter – 006 – Progress Update to end of July 2020

Due to the pandemic we are currently all living with, first & foremost I hope that this newsletter / update finds you and your families safe & well.

Since reopening on 4th May 2020, the project continues to be operated under the Construction Scotland Safe Operating Procedures accepted for use for essential works.

The safe operating procedures have allowed the following works to progress on site.

• Progression of the roof coverings including insulation
• Facing brick feature bands to Dryden Terrace & McDonald Road
• Installation of new structural steelwork including projecting window pods
• Installation of bracing steel & structural strengthening works
• Installation of new lift shaft steel structure

In the next few weeks further SFS framing systems will begin being installed which will allow the closing in of the building envelope to commence. By October we will be preparing for window installation to make the building watertight.

Internal fit out will then commence in October.

Early design & detailing work for the Museum of Fire has commenced with the designdisciplines working remotely & from home.

We have also recently been involved with a social media request to assist with watering the street trees on McDonald Road which now appear to be flourishing.

Proposed waiting/loading restriction changes to facilitate footway widening – Great Junction Street

Copied from an email from CEC’s Spaces for People. LCCC position on such rushed ‘consultations‘ (for example, in this post) remains that ‘LCCC regrets that the procedural shortcomings of a foreshortened consultation process may impinge on the quality of the proposed measures and undermine public trust and support.

EDIT: Great Junction St is not in LCCC’s area, but it is quite possible that the changes will impact the area.

Proposed waiting/loading restriction changes to facilitate footway widening – Great Junction Street

Following our email of 26 June advising that we would notify you once further details were available for the proposals above, we are pleased to be able to provide these now. We are aware that you were initially given proposals for Great Junction Street and Easter Road in a single notification, however in an effort to provide details at the earliest opportunity these have been separated and plans for Easter Road will be issued as soon as they are available.

We would suggest that you view the plan to see the detail of what is proposed.
