SP Energy Networks – Shrubhill Substation – Dryden Street

SP Energy networks sent the following communication to LCCC on late on Thursday 9 February 2023. LCCC will engage with SP Energy Networks to ensure disruptions (road closures, possible power outages) are kept to a minimum and are communicated in a timely manner.

Good morning community councillors – a short email to make you aware that SP Energy Networks are shortly due to commence a major project at Shrubhill Substation which will involve the replacement of a transformer.

You may recall, some time back when we completed the replacement of the first transformer we mentioned we would need to return to complete the replacement programme. It is not possible to replace both transformers at once to ensure network reliance.

The activity is due to start week commencing 6 February 2023 with some preparatory work taking place on underground cabling on Dryden Street as it leaves the substation – residents have been made aware and access will be maintained.  This will be completed by 24 February 2023 with the majority of work then taking place within the substation which is due to be completed in the last quarter of 2023.

Please note – there will be the need for further short term cabling work on the street at some point – SP Energy Networks will keep the residents updates when dates are confirmed.

One of the challenges faced at this location is the limited access for site deliveries as well as general access.

As you are aware SP Energy Networks are at the centre of the nations transition to clean energy and our modernisation programmes ensures we all continue to benefit from a reliable and efficient energy supply which is crucial in our modern society.

Please contact me should you require any further information.

Best Regards
