Community Council development and support programme

(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)

In response to feedback from community councillors a Development and Support programme has been established.  To date two sessions on Neighbourhood Partnerships and Community Engagement have been held and well received by the community councillors attending.  The other sessions are listed below.

To book a place on any of these sessions, please email Julie Dickson (julie.dickson@edinburgh.gov.uk) or telephone 0131-469 5393. Please let her know if you require any assistance to attend or take part e.g. large print, disabled access requirements, travel arrangements, hearing loop etc.

Leith Central CC suggests that these sessions would be  beneficial to aspiring LCCC members. Any such people should contact LCCC’s secretary at secretary.lccc@leithcentralcc.co.uk.

Fairer Scotland – the CC event

On Wednesday 16 September, around 80 community council members met in Glasgow to talk about how CCs could contribute to the Scottish Government’s Fairer Scotland initiative. The following are personal accounts and comments on this event from Leith Central CC’s web weaver (Bruce Ryan).

They do not represent Leith Central CC’s position on any matter but are reproduced here simply to inform readers about actions the SG and the Improvement Service are undertaking to help CCs live up to their roles (and to provide some constructive criticism of these actions).

Edinburgh’s Annual Volunteer Recruitment Fair

(copied from a post on Tower Wharf Residents’ association website)

You are all invited to Edinburgh’s Annual Volunteer Recruitment Fair onWednesday 7th October 2015 at St Paul’s and St George’s Church Hall, on York Place between 11am and 7pm.

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet some of Edinburgh’s Volunteer involving Organisations, and for your staff, clients, and Edinburgh’s people to learn more about volunteering opportunities across the City.

Please help us to promote the Volunteer Recruitment Fair by sharing details of it in your newsletters, website and social networks, or by displaying a poster.

If you are on Twitter please use the hashtag:  #edvolfair15

Last year the fair helped around 1,000 people in their search for volunteering opportunities to make connections with the organisations that needed them.

There are many benefits to volunteering: it’s a great way to use and develop skills, try something new, make new friends, boost your confidence and general wellbeing, gain valuable experience, and of course, make a real difference!

The Fair will also feature volunteering and employment specialists, Volunteer advisors, a friendly café run by Bespoke Organic Events and of course access to hundreds of volunteering opportunities across the city.
