National Planning Framework 4 – early engagement

(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)

Please note that the early engagement period for the development of National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) is now underway. https://blogs.gov.scot/planning-architecture/2020/01/09/national-planning-framework-4-npf4-early-engagement-now-underway/.

NPF4 will be a long term plan for Scotland setting out where development and infrastructure is needed to support sustainable and inclusive growth. Forming part of the development plan, it will be key in day-to-day decisions at all levels of planning in Scotland.

The early engagement programme provides people an opportunity to set out their aspirations for a future Scotland, and sets out how the planning system can help deliver those aspirations. To make sure you and your community can keep up-to-date and stay involved, it will be using a new website www.transformingplanning.scot as a hub for essential information and opportunities. Over the next few weeks the Government will publish dates and booking details for the Scotplan 2050 Roadshow; details of a community grant scheme; more information about national developments; and background information notes on Scottish Planning Policy topics.

The Government’s Programme for Engagement explains and highlights the package of engagement opportunities over the coming months to help gather ideas to inform the draft NPF4 that will be published for consultation in September 2020.

The Scottish Government has also opened a Call for Ideas – the Government wants to hear about your priorities for NPF4.  It is inviting any comments within the scope of the NPF by 31 March. You can find more information at www.transformingplanning.scot.

It will be regularly adding to this new web resource with further materials over the next few weeks and will tweet whenever it adds significant new material – @ScotGovPlanning #scotplan. If you have any other questions, the Government can be contacted at scotplan@gov.scot.
