1          Background

This briefing note gives an outline of the process and rules by which councillors are elected to the City of Edinburgh’s Community Councils. Community councillors are elected on a four-year cycle. Water of Leith walkway: please share the good news!

The walkway opened in the course of this week, following 18 months of lobbying CEC and pressing Miller Homes. Prior to that volunteers from the Water of Leith Trust had spent five days clearing the river and cutting back the overgrown vegetation. The path immediately behind Miller’s site is limited to circa 1m in width on a temporary basis while they continue with their protracted wall stabilisation works, but: the path is finally open. Gormley’s man who re-appeared nearly contemporaneously can be admired again mid-river, with some fine pieces of flotsam (or is it jetsam?) gathered behind him.
