Scotland’s census will take place in 2022

After the delay, Scotland’s next census will be held in March 2022. This census will be a digital first census and the Scottish Government want to encourage as many households in Scotland as possible to complete it online. They are inviting people to one or more of the online events listed below, to give information on how the census will be delivered.

As noted in recent Community Council meetings, the census, which counts the population of our area, informs local decisions such as new developments, schools and transport facilities. Our last census was in 2011.

The Leith Central area covers some of the highest-density housing in the UK, so we look forward to updated figures coming through.

New parking plans for Leith Walk, Pilrig & Abbeyhill announced

Edinburgh Council have announced the final layouts for the new Controlled Parking Zones across Leith Walk (including the area surrounding Lorne Street), Pilrig and Abbeyhill (including the area just east of Easter Road).

The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has just been released, and residents can feedback on the plans and maps until December 5th (this was originally pupblished as November 12th but the consultation has been extended);

Covid19 facilities in the area

Community Covid Testing Continues at McDonald Road Library

McDonald Road Library will host another community testing hub for people without Covid19 symptoms from Monday 11 October to Saturday 30 October (closed Sundays), 9am to 6pm. This is to aid research into the effects of Covid19.

Regular testing for people with no COVID-19 symptoms is one of the ways the Government can all help keep people safe and stop the spread new variants in Edinburgh. Infection rates are high across Edinburgh, so the Scottish Government are urging people to keep testing, even if they’ve been vaccinated. More info can be found on Edinburgh.gov.uk.

Actual library services will be unaffected by this.

Getting a Covid-19 test (for people with symptoms)

For regular Covid testing in the area, Leith Library on Ferry Road are one of the many locations in Edinburgh that will perform a PCR test upon booking through Gov.UK/get-coronavirus-test. The library itself remains closed while the test centre is open.

Vaccines

As for vaccinations, the Leith Comunity Treatment Centre on Junction Place will remain open Monday – Friday, 08:30-12:00 / 13:00-18:00 with Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines for ages 12+. Please visit NHSLothian.Scot for up-to-date information and a full list of locations.
