Traffic delays at Bonnington Toll
(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council time-stamped 12:21 on 30 May [today].)
I write to provide an update with regards the traffic delays this week due to the work taking place at Bonnington Toll (as detailed below).
Over the past 2 days, a number of private vehicles parked close to the work area have made it difficult for large vehicles to pass the traffic management and as such this has extended journey times for commuters quite significantly at times.
However, as of this morning it has been managed to move all vehicles which were causing an obstruction and as a result journey times are significantly better this morning.
In addition, there have been some adjustments to the temporary traffic signal timings, to reflect the dynamic flows at the junction throughout the day. It is hoped that for the remainder of the work traffic queues and delays can remain as short as possible.
If you need to discuss this in any more detail or would like a further update, or have any concerns from residents, please do not hesitate to contact Steven Blacklaw. Please also CC secretary.lccc@leithcentralcc.co.uk

Community Assembly to discuss what you care about in Leith
(adapted from a communication from Save Leith Walk)
Save Leith Walk would like to invite you to a Community Assembly to discuss how you would like Leith run. This event will be a great opportunity to meet fellow Leithers and share what you value in your community and what you would like to improve. Together we can build momentum to take action in shaping our neighbourhood and take ownership.
Please book your place via Eventbrite.
The Electoral Reform Society will facilitate the event and help with bringing aspirations together. The information gathered on the day will be used to create an Action Plan for the local community, enabling the people of Leith to take a pro-active role in the development of their community. There will be plenty of time for discussion, networking and sharing of ideas.
They will also be joined by speakers from Living Rent and Planning Democracy.
Community council election ‘countdown’
If there are more than 16 candidates for LCCC in September, the following election ‘countdown’ will apply
| Event | Day |
| Notice of Election (start of nomination period) | -52 |
| Close of Nominations (forms to Returning Officer) | -31 4pm |
| Withdrawal of Nominations | -31 4pm |
| Candidates’ personal statements | -21 |
| Notice of Poll (if required) | -21 |
| Polling Day | 0 |
The countdown doesn’t yet have dates because we do not know whether there will be an actual election. (If there are 16 or fewer candidates, they will all be deemed elected unopposed.)
