Mass resignation of Old Town Community Council

It’s saddening to learn of this.

From the news release:

Having become so exasperated with the disregard shown by the City of Edinburgh Council towards the local community, and the lack of support and encouragement for community councils in general, the majority of OTCC members have now taken this decision to resign. Due to community disaffection and lack of promotion by the Council for community council elections, without so much as a mention on the Council’s homepage, only one new member was recently co-opted onto the OTCC, constituting an insufficient number in order to sustain the OTCC.

New ‘Local democracy’ page on website

A new page containing more detailed reports on legislation that’s relevant to CCs and similar matters has been started. You’ll find it here. Unfortunately WordPress doesn’t allow more than one blog-style page per website, so articles are differentiated by colour.

Just now there are articles on the Commission on Strengthening Local Democracy and on the Community Empowerment Bill. The latter is about giving new powers to Community Councils – please check it out!

Piccardy Place hotel-plans exhibition

Developers GVA are consulting on plans for a hotel in the middle of Picardy Place.  The plans are at an early stage – this is a consultation prior to drawing up a full planning application.

How to take part in the consultation

  • Staffed consultation exhibition: Friday 6 December, 2pm-7.30, Cafe Camino, Little King Street EH1 3JD.
