Sustainable Energy Action Plan – Edinburgh Council
(adapt from a page on Edinburgh Council’s website)
Edinburgh’s draft Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) aims to reduce carbon emissions by 42% by 2020, from 2005 levels. The most recent data available shows that Edinburgh has reduced CO2 by 14.5% to the year 2011.
Edinburgh Council proposes 5 areas for reducing emissions and energy use:
- energy efficiency measures
- renewable energy
- waste-to energy
- district heating and co-generation
- sustainable transport.
You can download the SEAP summary, SEAP reference document and easy print version below from Edinburgh Council’s website.
Conservation Area character appraisals
(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)
Edinburgh Council is currently reviewing its character appraisals for Edinburgh’s conservation areas.
Character appraisals guide the local planning authority in making planning decisions and, where opportunities arise, in preparing enhancement proposals.
The current character appraisal for Leith can be viewed here:
http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/1099/leith_conservation_area_character_appraisalpdf
The intention is to make the appraisals more interactive and the first of these has been completed for the Grange Conservation Area:

A draft revised character appraisal is programmed for presentation to the Planning Committee in February 2015. Following this there will be a comprehensive consultation on the appraisal.
At this stage, we would be pleased to know if there are any issues you would like to see included in the draft appraisal.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss this or arrange a meeting.

Local Development Plan – LCCC’s submissions
Leith Central CC today made 8 submissions to the consultation on the second local development plan. These submissions look for
- protection and increase of green space and visual amenity in the Leith area,
- management of parking to maintain and improve air quality,
- building district heating infrastructure into new housing developments to support low-carbon targets,
- linking of cycle-paths via a ‘green bridge’ over Leith Walk and other measures
- new roads to be limited to 20mph
Here are the actual submissions
Local development plan: Edinburgh Council’s documents
They’re here. Very much worth reading, especially about housing land and potential building on the greenbelt.
