Planning Application for large LED advertising hoarding at 10 Croall Place has been refused

Following objections by LCCC and 22 others, the Planning Authority (CEC) has refused to grant planning permission for 19/03509/ADV as it is detrimental of the visual amenity of the area.
In LCCC’s view, the advert is clearly distacting and intrusive for both residential properties – some quite a distance away – which are disturbed by the advert’s illumination reaching inside properties, and pedestrians and drivers. It also impacts negatively on the character of the Conservation Area by its sheer visual reach all the way past the Pilrig Street junction.
It is also worth noting that the existing 5 year permission for the advert had run out on 11 April 2019 and its continuing use was therefore a breach of planning regulations and subject to an ongoing (why do these things take so long?) enforcement process.

Care shelter: September 2019 to May 2020

The Bethany Christian Trust arranges a free night shelter offering food and sleeping facilities to people who are homeless

It will be at Meadowbank Church from 23 September–17 October, due to delays in planning permission. BCT is currently uncertain of when the Care Shelter will return to Diadem so please keep an eye out for future posters.

Transport will be provided to the Care Shelter in the evenings from the bus stop going out of town on the Western Approach Road at the Lothian Road end. There will be three pick- ups (unless the Care Shelter is already full):

  • 9pm
  • 9.30pm
  • 11pm (no food will be available at this time)

Please note: there will be no minibus runs back to the city-centre in the mornings whilst at Meadowbank Church.

Evening meals will be provided by local churches from 9.30-10.30pm.

Breakfast is available at 6.30am and people using the service must leave by 7am. Staff members will be on duty each night.

Leith Volunteer Fair #2 in October

After the success of the first Volunteer Fair in June, where organisations such as Leither’s Don’t Litter, the YMCA and our Community Council took part in, Leith Community Education Centre are hosting a second one on Thursday 10th October 2019 from 4pm to 7pm.

The volunteer fair is an excellent way to get involved the local community and learn what people and organisations are up to across greater Leith.
