Leith Programme Stakeholder Update 61

Progress Update

The programme remains on schedule to be finished by the planned completion date of 19 December

Section 6b East (Lorne Street junction southwards)

  • Drainage alterations and slabbing in progress

 Section 6b West (Balfour Street northwards)

  • North section completed, grouting works ongoing
  • Kerbing and slabbing works to south section ongoing

 Section 8b East (Manderston Street area north)

  • Main slabbing and kerbing works complete, grouting ongoing

 Section 8c West (Casselbank Street area)

  • South section all works complete
  • Kerb realignment complete to northern section
  • Works to gullies and lifting and removal of existing slabs in progress

 Section 8c East (Crown Street northwards):

  • Kerb re-alignment complete
  • Works to gullies in progress along with lifting and removal of existing slabs

 Carriageway

  • Planing and basecourse works 100% complete in southern sections
  • Planing and basecourse 100% complete in northern sections
  • Final surface/wearing course undertaken to date – north of Stead’s Place to Crown Place

Anticipated final surfacing timescales at junctions (subject to change due to weather conditions and/or issues with existing ironwork)

  • Friday 21 November – Junctions at Manderston, Jane and Casselbank Streets
  • Sunday 23 November – Junction at Stead’s Place
  • Monday 24 November – Junctions at Crown Street and Crown Place

 Weekend Working – 22/23 November

In order to ensure work remains on schedule, the contractors will be carrying out weekend work on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November 2014. This will involve footway work on Saturday and carriageway work on Sunday. The carriageway works will centre around the area at the Stead’s Place junction.

Looking ahead for next week

  • Continue with slabbing works in footpath areas 6 & 8
  • Continue with carriageway final surfacing heading south
  • Continue with footway inspections and remedial works
  • Progress raised table work at road junctions

Public consultation on proposed development at Shrub Place by Places for People

Opportunities to find out about plans at an early stage and interact with developer

  • 11/11/14 3-7pm: public event ‘open day’ at McDonald Rd Library
  • 17/11/14: 7pm: LCCC meeting with presentation from developer and Q&A – open to the public at McDonald Rd Library
  • 24/11/14 3-7pm: second public event ‘open day’ at McDonald Rd Library

Everyone can make suggestion to developer at this stage and indicate whether they are supportive/neutral/against the development in general and what, if any, changes they would like to see. Comments should be made directly to developer (info@coopercromar.com). It would be helpful, if any submissions are also copied to planning.lccc@leithcentralcc.co.uk and to local councillors.

Details of Proposal as currently available (14/03607/PAN)

Amendment to approved application 05/03128/FUL for the demolition of existing office building and Masonic Club, conversion of listed building and new build development to provide for new Masonic club, retail and commercial provision to Leith Walk and residential development with associated access, parking and landscaping. Amendments to include:

  1. Car park layout reduced
  2. Removal of commercial office to block A and substitute with residential
  3. Redesign of internal flat layouts/cores/mix to comply with current Building Standards
  4. Public realm redesigned
  5. Revise elevations.
