Do NHS boards adhere to good corporate governance?

The Scottish Parliament’s Health and Sport Committee is undertaking an inquiry into the effectiveness of corporate governance in NHS Boards. This is the third and final stage of its wider inquiry into NHS Governance which has also been looking at staff and clinical governance.

In this next stage, the Committee will assess if NHS boards follow the key principles of good corporate governance it will draw upon Audit Scotland’s ‘Role of Boards Report’ and the Scottish Government’s ‘On Board’ Guidance. The Committee will look at the structures and processes for decision making, accountability, control and behaviour at senior levels of NHS Scotland. Continue reading

Funding opportunities

Funds are available in each of the three Neighbourhood Partnership Community Grants Funds for the South East Locality. These funds will be available until the end of March 2018. The Neighbourhood Partnership can award grants of up to £5,000: organisations and groups can use these for local community activity that supports the work of the Partnership and/or the Locality Improvement Plan.

Armadillos on Leith Walk – an unwanted invader?

Leith Central CC’s vice-chair suggests that armadillos may be an undesirable, bolt-on solution for cycle-safety on Leith Walk. While not everyone agrees with their removal, it’s hard to disagree with this:

Arguably, rolling up sleeves and getting the whole length of the Walk finally and speedily done after 10 years of devastation and stop-start repairs – and using up the remaining £5m (?) in the Leith Walk programme pot for an easy-to-read, robust design – should be the focus. And consistent enforcement of basic rules of parking reguations and the Highway Code.
