LifeCare is offering help at home for older people in Leith

LifeCare was originally founded in 1941 as Edinburgh & Leith Old Peoples Welfare Council.  It was later known as Edinburgh & Leith Age Concern (ELAC), before changing its name to Life Care

LifeCare supports the independence of older people, helping them to live as normally and independently as possible within their given circumstances.They currently have some funding in place which is allowing them to offer some free visits in Leith.  If you are interested please contact Life Care on 0131 343 0950

Meeting of the Feeling Safe Community Forum Saturday 30 November 2013

The next meeting of the Feeling Safe Community Forum is being held on Saturday 30 November 2013, from 11:30 (doors open at 11am) in McDonald Road Library.

There will be a guest speaker from the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service who will speak s about their preventative & community work.   Towards the end of the meeting there will be a questions and answers session.

The main part of the meeting will be a chance to elect six new quarterly priorities for the Council & Police to work on for a three month period as well as getting feedback on what was done to address the current priorities.  There is still time to suggest a safer neighbourhood priority by completing this brief form; www.surveymonkey.com/s/VS3NC7N Suitable suggestions will be put to the public vote at this next meeting.

These are the current priorities:

  • Leith Links area – Address anti social behaviour caused by persons drinking alcohol.
  • All Leith Primary schools – Run a safe parking initiative at drop off & pick up times.
  • Kirkgate area – Address anti social behaviour caused by persons drinking alcohol.
  • Leith Walk – Address anti social & intimidating behaviour by beggars.
  • All Leith & Leith Walk area – Run a Halloween bonfire & firework initiative to address unsafe practices & anti social behaviour.
  • Leith Walk –  Run a road traffic initiative to address speeding motorists and cyclists on pavements.

No invite is needed, please just come along.  Refreshments are provided and the venue is level floor access.
