Action on drugs and alcohol – link to local community plan

(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)

Alcohol Focus Scotland is working in partnership with Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership on a pilot project supporting the implementation of whole population approaches to reduce alcohol harm at a local level. The pilot will have a particular focus on people affected by someone else’s drinking and will be working to increase the capacity within communities to address alcohol-related harm. The pilot is scheduled to run until November 2015 and seeks to develop models of good practice that can be shared in other ADP areas.

The Leith Pilot can link in well will the Leith Local Community Plan 2014-17.  Therefore a public discussion meeting, with a view to promoting the Action Groups and having an input into the developing Action Plans, is being arranged for 6.30 pm on 25 November 2015 in the Nelson Hall, McDonald Road Library.  I am in the process of meeting with everyone to discuss the evolving of Community Groups into Action Groups, but would ask that you come along to this meeting even if we have not had a chance to meet up yet.

If you have any questions about the pilot, contact Gemma Crompton, Policy and Development Co-ordinator  on gemma.crompton@alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk

Information about Alcohol Focus Scotland can be found at  www.alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk.

Refreshed Planning and Building Standards Service

(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)

The Acting Head of Planning and Building Standards is pleased to announce a refreshed Planning and Building Standards Service will be introduced on 27 October 2014.  Following a review of how the service has been delivered, an area-based focus has now been developed for dealing with planning and building standard applications.  There will also be a city wide function for areas such as the development plan, built and natural environment, place making and service delivery.

More information about what the teams do, the areas they cover and contact details for each area are available in Edinburgh Council’s planning blog, www.planningedinburgh.com. Edinburgh Council will be sharing this with its stakeholders and circulating a leaflet round Council offices and libraries in the coming week.  You can also sign up to the blog for email alerts.
