Waste Action Grants – apply now!

Communities across Edinburgh are being urged to submit their applications to the City of Edinburgh Council for a Waste Action Grant as the deadline fast approaches. The upcoming deadline is Tuesday 9th February.

Grants are available to fund eco-friendly projects that will encourage more people in the Capital to reduce, reuse and recycle. Groups who are working to prevent litter in their local area are encouraged to apply.

A range of funding is available, from smaller grants of £50-£200 to larger grants of £500 – £2500.

Edinburgh’s 2016/17 budget agreed

At the special Edinburgh Council budget meeting on Thursday 21 January, Councillors considered the proposals and the budget engagement findings, and agreed how the £950 million budget will be spent and where we can make savings for the future. Election Fever! Your community council needs you

Leith Central Community Council needs new members! There are vacancies for 9 elected members. If you are interested in becoming a Leith Central community councillor, you can nominate yourself using the Nomination form for Elected Member. Community groups active in Leith Central CC’s area can nominate representatives using Leith Central Nomination Form – Local Interest Group.

Leith Central CC is a friendly, welcoming group of volunteers committed to working to improve the area and represent its citizens.

Nominees must be over 16 years of age and on the electoral roll. The deadline for nominations is 4pm Monday 1 February 2016. If there are more candidates than places on the community council, an election will be held in that area on Thursday 25 February 2016.

British Heart Foundation CPR training (Tollcross and Liberton Fire Stations)

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is offering training on CPR. Sessions last approximately an hour with one session available at Tollcross (Sundays 11am) and one available at Liberton (Weds 4pm) each month.

Community Activist course – Starts FEB 2016

A couple of last minute places have become available on this free training course that starts on 9 Feb.

Anyone that lives or is active in the Old Town (inc Dumbiedykes) or Leith is eligible to take part.
