Climate Challenge Funding: Applications WANTED

The Climate Challenge Fund is open for applications from community led-organisations including community councils, but please act quickly as the deadlines are fast approaching!

Climate Change Minister Aileen McLeod has confirmed the Fund will continue for another year, after it was allocated £10.3 million in the Scottish Government’s Draft Budget 2016-17.

The hugely successful Climate Challenge Fund has supported 756 community-led schemes since 2008, including energy efficiency, sustainable travel, local food growing projects and initiatives to tackle waste.

Community-led organisations including community councils across to are invited to apply for a share of the £10.3 million funding with grants up to £150,000 available per project.

Community-led organisations currently in receipt of a CCF grant must have submitted a completed application by 19/02/16

All other community-led organisations must have submitted an Expression of Interest by 5/02/16 and a completed application by 19/02/16

Traffic Regulation Orders: Spring Gardens and Manderston Street

Edinburgh Council proposes to advertise the Traffic Regulation Orders which will extend the waiting restrictions on Spring Gardens & introduce a 24 hr loading prohibition on a part of Manderston Street.

The proposals are shown on the attached plans. A copy of the street notice is attached for your information. Further information is available on the Council website www.edinburgh.gov.uk/trafficorders or at www.tellmescotland.gov.uk.

Should anyone wish to submit an objection to the proposal, please do so by 19 February 2016 quoting notice reference number TRO/15/02C.

Digital engagement for community councils

A report on digital engagement by community councils has just been published. Key findings include CCs’ frequent lack of human resources to create and maintain websites and social media presences. Without the necessary people, digital engagement with CCs’ citizens is a non-starter, as shown by the large number of lapsed CC online presences. There is also a clear need for hands-on training and guidance about setting up online presences using modern blogging platforms. Continue reading

Open Government!

Think government should be more transparent, engaging and accountable? Here’s how to get involved in writing the UK’s new open government action plan.

Open government is the simple but powerful idea that governments and institutions work better for citizens when they are transparent, engaging and accountable.

As a member of the global Open Government Partnership, the UK and devolved governments must publish an open government action plan in June 2016, setting out clear, specific and measurable open government reforms for the next two years.  In the spirit of open government, this action plan is being co-developed by government and civil society, and its implementation will be monitored by the Independent Reporting Mechanism of the OGP.   Continue reading
